Madeline Lucy Smith soprano

Madeline joined the Vancouver Chamber Choir in 2010. Prior to her arrival, she spent a year singing in Australia where she was featured as the soprano soloist in the world premiere of the Mary MacKillop Mass by Melbourne composer Nicholas Buc with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also engaged to sing First Witch in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at the brand new Melbourne Recital Centre and was one of six finalists in the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Aria competition.

Madeline made her European debut at just 21 years of age singing the role of Atalanta in Handel's Serse, returning the following year to perform the role of Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni In May 2010, she performed the role of Melisande in Debussy's Pelleas et Melisande with Vancouver's Opera Appassionata. Another role performed with this company was the lead in the Canadian premiere of Heuberger's The Opera Ball. In addition, Madeline has appeared as a soloist in A Merry Evening of Opera at Bard on the Beach with the Vancouver Opera Symphony.

An oratorio lover, she has been the featured soprano soloist in the Vancouver Unitarian Church Choir's performances of Mozart's Vespere Solennes de Confessore and Poulenc's Gloria with the Vancouver Chamber Players and has an upcoming engagement with this orchestra, now known as the West Coast Symphony. She has also appeared with the Vancouver Bach Choir and the Vancouver Symphony in their Sing-Along Messiah.

While classically trained, Madeline has a wide range of repertoire and musical interests. She has performed in a concert of excerpts from jazz and cabaret works by Kurt Weill, and fronted a jazz band at Dizzy's Jazz Club in Melbourne, Australia. Most recently, she was a member of Melbourne's Gloriana Chamber Choir performing such works as Schnittke's Choral Concerto and Part's Berliner Messe.
