The Vancouver Chamber Choir Singers

Violet Goosen - Alto

Violet Goosen Alto Singing and playing piano were always an important part of Violet's family and school life while growing up in Vancouver, British Columbia. Violet is a graduate of the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Education program.

The challenges and opportunities of singing with a professional group and exploring the vast choral repertoire were so appealing to Violet that she auditioned and subsequently became a full-time member of the Vancouver Chamber Choir in 1973.

As well as being one of twenty professional singers, Violet has been the Choir's full-time General Manager since 1989. In this demanding role, she works tirelessly on virtually every one of the Choir's operating and performing initiatives, including booking venues and guest artists, the annual budget, preparing arts and government grant applications, ongoing fundraising, tour scheduling, recording sessions, outreach programming, and its marketing campaign. Violet is a Member of the Western Alliance of Arts Administrators and is a Member of the Board of Festival Vancouver and Pacific Theatre.

Violet has performed throughout the world with the VCC. One of her most memorable tours was to the Soviet Union in 1989. Immediately following the Choir's Latvian encore, the 1100-strong audience in Riga responded by standing up and singing the same lovely piece back to the Choir in glorious four-part harmony!
